چکیده

The Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) aquaculture industry is growing, and with it, the need to source optimise sustainable ingredients for aquafeeds. Black soldier fly (BSF) larvae (Hermetia illucens) have received increasing research attention since they are a good of protein that can efficiently convert wide range low-value organic material into valuable resources. This study investigated impact three differently processed BSF meals, an untreated diet (BSFC+), dechitinated (BSFC-) fermented (BSFC+P+) at 10% inclusion level replacing fish meal in control (FM) marine soy concentrate based (SPC). Growth performance, gut microbiome histology fry was assessed. processing methods showed no adverse impacts on either growth performance or histology. However, significantly altered by both method larvae. Fish fed BSFC+, had increased diversity evenness community compared conventional sources alone, other methods. diets greater presence lactic acid bacteria genera associated faster growing hosts. high relative abundance genus, Exiguobacterium, chitin-degrading bacterium BSFC+P+ this completely dominated community, indicating dysbiosis. Future studies should determine, why Exiguobacterium has diet, if it provides digestive function host identify indicators optimal resilience. results confirmed promising replacement salmon, demonstrated BSFC+ potential prebiotic salmon.

Modulation of nutrient composition of black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) larvae by feeding seaweed-enriched media

Black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) larvae are a promising source of protein and lipid for animal feeds. The nutritional composition of the BSF larvae depend partly on the composition of the feeding medium. The BSF lipid profile in part mimics the feeding media lipid profile, and micronutrients, like minerals and vitamins, can readily accumulate in black soldier fly larvae. However, investiga...

A survey of the mycobiota associated with larvae of the black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) reared for feed production

Feed security, feed quality and issues surrounding the safety of raw materials are always of interest to all livestock farmers, feed manufacturers and competent authorities. These concerns are even more important when alternative feed ingredients, new product developments and innovative feeding trends, like insect-meals, are considered. The black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) is considered a ...

Effect of feeding rate on nutrient digestibility in Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L.

A digestibility trial was conducted to examine the effect of feeding rate on dry matter, gross energy, crude protein and phosphorus digestibility in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar). Duplicate groups of fish were fed 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.25 and 1.9% BW/day. The faeces were collected by Guelph-type collectors for five successive days. Dry matter, protein and phosphorus digestibility’s wer...

Susceptibility of black soldier fly (Diptera: Stratiomyidae) larvae and adults to four insecticides.

Dosage-mortality regressions were determined for black soldier fly, Hermetia illucens (L.), larvae fed cyromazine or pyriproxifen treated media. Cyromazine LC50 for larvae dying before becoming prepupae ranged from 0.25 to 0.28 ppm with dosage-mortality regression slopes between 5.79 and 12.04. Cyromazine LC50s for larvae dying before emergence ranged from 0.13 to 0.19 ppm with dosage-mortality...
